We’ve been to the sunken well tavern for dinner service but wanted to try their brunch today. Of course it’s a Sunday in downtown so they were busy! We were seated right away at the bar area and promptly greeted with menus. I was really excited when I received the brunch specials for the day. They had so many yummy options! Pictured: Country Fried Steak Western Omelette Both were very tasty and served with large portions. The country fried steak had an amazing flavor, the cheesy potatoes were delicious, and my eggs were cooked to perfection. Next time we go I want to try the stuffed poblano. I witnessed many come out of the kitchen and it looked like a masterpiece.
Honestly it was great! The salmon burger I had was moist and flavorful yet didn’t just fall apart in your hands. The fries were unique and salted perfectly. However the surprising stand out of my meal was by far the home made tomato basil soup. I was surprised and can easily say that its was hand down the best tomato soup I have ever had. I have been all over the world and it was the best. If they have the tomato soup it is a must have. I am just sad I was visiting and live over three hours away.
We have been all over the U.S. and this is our new favorite. Never used the words amazing for food, but wow this was amazing. We drove by a few months ago and decided to pass…such a mistake. Everything to include the side salad itself was wonderful; my lady even loved the ranch and she is picky with it. Such a hidden gem…don’t visit so we have it all to ourselves. Wink
It was a super busy brunch on Sunday but we were sat within 15-20 minutes. The food was amazing! They do breakfast shots the right way with a nice little bacon bite, and their sandwiches were off the charts! The Cuban and gold rush were perfection!
What a fun place! The sandwiches and sides are great. Highly recommend the onion rings and side salads.
Cool place, eclectic and feel good. Gorgeous art for sale. I think we fell into a locals spot and so glad we did.
What a hidden gem this is! My son was at a soccer camp within walking distance at Mary Washington's campus. We had two hours for lunch each day and walked the third of a mile down the street to this local venue in an old house. The menu is expansive, with much variety and the portions are vast. The restaurant was packed during the two days we were there and we sat outside. So get there early if you choose an inside seat. Over the two days we had one of the various Benedict choices which were fabulous, a couple of very large pancakes. Draft local beer options are available and delicious. The staff are very friendly. Don't expect a rapid meal when you come here but be patient, the food is fabulous.
This was our first time at this hidden gem but definitely will not be our last. We had no expectations upon entering the restaurant during Brunch this past Saturday morning but left full and amazed at the meals we devoured! We were told the specials change weekly. Husband had the steak and eggs that is listed on the regular menu. Our daughter had the Picanha a Steak which is seared Picanha steak, garlic miche, halloumi cheese, chimichurri, cheesy potatoes and eggs cooked your way. I had the Coconut Moriscos Bowl which contained soft shell crab (fried to perfection), grilled octopus, rockfish, rice, roasted carrots and zucchini in a coconut broth topped with mango salsa. The last two items were a little on the pricey side but well worth the money spent. They were busy and had just seated a large party but I thought overall that the food came out in a reasonable time. We look forward to returning soon.
